Activity 1- Day 1 Weekly Activities... (Holiday Blogging)

The Learn: Let’s imagine that you were alive 2792 years ago and invited to compete in the first ever ancient Olympic Games. Which of these events: running, wrestling, boxing, pankration, horse racing and pentathlon would you compete in? Click on the name of the sport and it will take you to a site that tells you about the sport. On your blog tell us which sport you would choose and why you chose it.

My Answer:

I would choose running because their are 3 different distances of running, short distance, middle distance and long distance. I would participate in the middle distance race because it is not to long and not to short. If you are participating in the long distance race you would have to pace yourself and ensure you are not making it harder for yourself and if you were to participate in the short distance you would have to run exceptionally fast which can be really hard to maintain for 100 meters or so. So my comment on the middle distance race is that it gives you heaps of momentum to pace yourself and maintain your speed for 90 percent of the race then dominate for the short remainder of the race.

  3. Hi Pat,

Welcome to the Winter Learning Journey programme! I see that you have already posted five blogs. That is amazing! Way to go!

I am so happy that you have joined the journey and that your family is clearly supporting your learning by posting great comments. It is wonderful to see!

Like you, I would have also chosen the middle distance running races if I was a competitor in the ancient Olympic games. I enjoy running but I have never been very good at it so I think that the long distance races would be too hard for me to finish and the short distance races would involve too much sprinting!

I hope that you continue to enjoy the blogging programme and to be such an active blogger over the break. You are setting a wonderful example for other students and their whanau. Thank you.

    Cheers, Rachel
